Requesting a Cypress (High Performance Computer) Account

All accounts must be associated with a Tulane faculty member who is the Principal Investigator (PI) of his/her research group.  After determining an appropriate PI, any Tulane affiliate interested in using Cypress for research can submit a Cypress HPC service request.

• Globus: Move, receive and share data of any size via web browser interface with Enhanced Data Protection and Box Integration. If interested in access, please email researchIT@tulane.edu to initiate the process.
• REDCap: Secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases, geared to support online and offline data capture for research studies and operations. 
• Box: Unlimited, free cloud storage with your Tulane email and password.  Maximum file size 150GB.
• OneDrive: 1TB, free cloud storage with your Tulane email and password.

Creative Apps

• BioRender: Life science research illustrations, icons, and graphs for your posters, papers, and presentations. Learn more about BioRender.
• Graphpad: No-code application that facilitates creation of tables that are structured for scientific research and guide statistical analyses to streamline research workflow. Users outside of School of Medicine may request access to Graphpad via a ServiceNow ticket.

Data Collection & Survey Tools

• Qualtrics: create web-based surveys and conduct statistical analysis.  
• REDCap: Secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases, geared to support online and offline data capture for research studies and operations. 

Electronic Research Administration 

• Cayuse (grant lifecycle management system) grant lifecycle management application for managing sponsored projects, preparing and submitting grant proposals, and related compliance needs. 

Electronic Lab Notebooks

• LabArchives Electronic Lab Notebook: organize, collaborate and share data in a secure and backed up electronic notebook. 
• Lab Archives Scheduler:  calendar and scheduling software for management and scheduling of space, equipment and resources. 
• Lab Archives Inventory: customizable software for finding, linking and using inventory in labs and other spaces. 

Geographical Information Systems 

• ESRI ArcGIS (available via software.tulane.edu or download the desktop application): comprehensive set of tools for compiling, visualizing, analyzing, editing, managing, and sharing geographic data. 

Statistics & Analysis

• IBM SPSS Statistics (available via software.tulane.edu): Statistical software for data management, advanced analytics, multivariate analysis, business intelligence, and similar uses. Commonly used for stats analysis is social sciences. 
• MATLAB (available for high-performance computing, Cypress): Numeric computing environment that provides matrix manipulations, data and function plotting, algorithms implementation, user interface creation, and interface with programming languages and tool kits that include model-based design and symbolic computing.
• Mathematica (available via software.tulane.edu): Technical computing software for machine learning, statistics, symbolic computation, data manipulation, network analysis, time series analysis, NLP, optimization, matrix manipulations, data and function plotting, algorithms implementation, user interface creation, and other uses. 
• NVIVO Qualitative Data (by service request): Qualitative data analysis software used in the social sciences to organize and analyze non-numerical or unstructured data like interviews, open-ended survey responses, journal articles, social media and web content, where deep levels of data analysis are required.  
  Note: The institutional NVIVO license will terminate on 9/1/25. At that time, users will need to pay for their own individual accounts.
• Statistical Analysis System (SAS) (available via software.tulane.edu): Statistical software for data management, advanced analytics, multivariate analysis, business intelligence, criminal investigation, and predictive analytics. Mine, alter, manage and retrieve data from various sources and perform statistical analysis with a graphical and command line interfaces. 
• Stata 16 (available via software.tulane.edu): Statistical software package for data manipulation, visualization, statistics, and automated reporting using graphical and command line interfaces.  Used by researchers in various fields, including biomedicine, economics, epidemiology, and sociology.
• RStudio (available via software.tulane.edu): Integrated development environment for R, an open-source programming language for statistical computing and data visualization commonly used in data mining, bioinformatics and data analysis.
