"Digi-Tools" Helps First-Year Students Start the Semester Tech-Ready

Incoming first-year students received an early introduction to Tulane’s digital learning resources during the recent Hello Hullabaloo "Digi-Tools to Make College Click" new-student orientation sessions, hosted by the Innovative Learning Center (ILC) and the Value in Virtual Access (VIVA) student organization. The Digi-Tools sessions were designed specifically for the first-year audience, giving students an opportunity to explore technology they can use to stay organized, collaborate, create, and work more efficiently throughout their academic journey.

During the interactive session, students explored tools available through Tulane, including Box Cloud for storing, backing up, and collaborating on coursework and Adobe Creative Cloud resources for bringing ideas and assignments to life. Students were also introduced to tools such as Adobe Express, Adobe Firefly, and Adobe Spaces, with examples of how to use them to develop presentations, collaborate on projects, create visual content, and add creativity to academic work and study materials. The session also highlighted the technology support available to students when they need assistance navigating the LMS and other digital resources.

More than a technology demonstration, Digi-Tools sessions encourage students to think intentionally about how technology can support the ways students learn, create, communicate, and collaborate. Introducing Tulane's digital resources early gives students a foundation they can continue building upon as the expectations and diversity of their coursework grow.

Invite the ILC to bring a Digi-Tools session to your class and give students an opportunity to explore university-supported technologies as part of their coursework. Sessions can introduce a collection of digital resources or focus on tools and workflows that complement a particular assignment, project, or learning activity.

Whether students are preparing a presentation, collaborating on a group project, creating multimedia content, or simply looking for more efficient ways to manage their academic work, a classroom Digi-Tools session can help connect them with resources they already have access to—and show them how to put those resources to work.
